Pikes Peak Challenge is a hike to the top of Pikes Peak to raise money for the prevention of brain injury. The challenge follows Barr Trail 13 miles to the 14,110 foot summit. Proceeds in 2009 will benefit the Brain Injury Association of Colorado whose goal is to help improve the quality of life for survivors and their families and support programs to prevent brain injury. Funds are used for education and prevention, grants for survivors to attend summer camps and programs to empower survivors and their family members to advocate for themselves. Funds also support a toll free information phone line, a website dealing with the issues associated with traumatic brain injury as well as an extensive resource library. You can visit the BIAC website at www.biacolorado.org.Funds will also support Think First for Kids a head and spinal cord injury prevention program that targets children, teens, and young adults. In Colorado Springs, Think First gives away hundreds of bicycle, skateboard, snowboarding and horse riding helmets and provides free curriculum to elementary schools as well as powerful presentations to middle school and high school students. This year alone, the Think First staff and brain-injured survivors will give presentations reaching thousands of students with the message that, “Prevention is the only cure for brain injury!” Why should you participate?
